House of Twelve Presents

So every year Team 12 gets together at the Hasselberger compound and has itself a little barbecue. But this isn't any regular plain old BBQ, this is a comics BBQ, which means we stay outside for an entire hour before running back indoors to draw comics in the air conditioned comfort of my apartment. Who needs the sun? BAH, that shit's for suckers.

The idea started when I wanted to come up with something like the 24 hour comics. I generally don't hold the opinion that hastily crafted comics are any good, especially ones where a single individual has to come up with 24 pages in a day. So we teamed and shortened the concept. We still produce 24 pages of comics in a day, but we team up in randomly generated pairs and each team comes up with a 4-5 page story together. I think it's considerably more entertaining for the creators and bares better results because of that.

The first Ho12 Presents was our take on the classic Japanese story of Rashomon. The story tells of man and his wife who travel through the woods and are accosted by a local thief. The rest of the story is told by one of the jurors on the thief's trial, with the woman telling her side of the story, the thief telling his and a medium telling the story of the dead husband. each story if dramatically different and leaves it up to the reader to decide what really happened. In our version we stripped it down to it's bare bones, three people walk into the woods, two walk out and the trial with the medium. It's strange and bizarre, just as we like it, but also funny as hell.

The following year we created a sequal to the classic 80's stoner flick Heavy Metal. So it's Heavy Metal: the Movie: The mini-comic. Imagine of the dreaded Loc-nar returned a generation later to try and pervert yet another Tarracian through tales of it's evil power. That's it in a nutshell. Since the fairly obvious copyright issues (although it does fall under parody) this book has been available for free with any purchase from Ho12, but people loved it so much that we went through several hundred copies in just one year. There may be a second printing at some point, but as of now this book is out of print. But fear not, the entire issue is available online exclusively at comicspace.com/house_of_twelve so head on over and check it out, it's a gas!

The last movie book we did was a send up the the John Hughes favorite, The Breakfast Club. It features some of my favorite Ho12 jokes to date. Ask for it by name at our next convention appearence!
